Culinary Vienna: Breakfast at 'Motto am Fluss' {Café}

ENG: If food can be a hobby, I've found my favourite leisure time activity at an early age. However, the older I get, the more I enjoy indulging in fancy breakfasts and therefore, love to spend my time at nice brunch spots or little cafés. Due to my habit of sticking to certain places, once I've enjoyed nice service, staff and - of course - culinary highlights there, my foodie-bucket list still is about a mile long. Yet, today I can recommend a place where I have had one of the best cocktails ever, before I came to give their breakfast menu a try - and what can I say? Motto am Fluss can also win my heart with non-alcoholic beverages and dishes. That's not as easy as it may sound, though. Haha.

The café is on the upper deck of the twin-city liner's landing stage, above the Motto am Fluss restaurant, located on the banks of the Danube canal. Besides an interesting modern architecture and interior, the DJ sounds compliment the vibrant atmosphere of that certain area of the city well. Especially in summer, when the beach bars alongside the canal are filled with diverse people, drinks and laughter, the café's terrace is an ideal spot to hang out and enjoy biological, local food, homemade bread and patisserie or delicious sundowners, as the days turn into evenings. Overlooking the river and catching the last ray of sunshine in the heart of Vienna.. oh summer, hurry up! 

The closest station for public transport is Schwedenplatz, just across the street. Doors are open from 8am to 2am daily, with breakfast available until 4pm. Prices can be described as fair average; e.g. pancakes 5,90€, eggs w/ salmon or homemade granola 7€.

GER: Wenn Essen als Hobby bezeichnet werden kann, habe ich schon früh meine liebste Freizeitbeschäftigung entdeckt. Trotzdem genieße ich es mehr und mehr, je älter ich werde, in schönen Lokalen zu frühstücken oder stundenlang zu brunchen. Da ich allerdings die Angewohnheit habe, meinen Favourites treu zu bleiben, sobald ich mit Bedienung, Atmosphäre und natürlich dem Essen zufrieden war, ist meine Liste an neu auszuprobierenden Restaurants und Cafés noch sehr lang. Trotzdem habe ich heute wieder einen 'neuen' Vienna Pick für Euch parat, nämlich das Motto am Fluss. Bevor ich mich dort durch die Frühstückskarte gefuttert habe, hatte ich das Café - und die schöne dazugehörige Terrasse! - schon wegen der unglaublich leckeren Cocktails ins Herz geschlossen! Besonders die lauen Sommerabende lassen die Lage am Donaukanal großartig zur Geltung kommen und laden zum Verweilen ein; ich kann mir gut vorstellen, vom Brunch - Frühstück gibt's bis 16 Uhr - gleich zu den Sundownern überzugehen.. 

Das Motto am Fluss befindet sich gegenüber des Schwedenplatzes, am Twin-City Liner Schiffterminal und hat täglich von 8 Uhr morgens bis 2 Uhr in der Früh geöffnet. Die Preise sind Wiener Durchschnitt, würde ich sagen; Pancakes gibt's für 5,90€, Eier mit Lachs oder hausgemachtes Granola kosten ca. 7€. Wert wird laut eigener Aussage auf biologische, regionale Produkte gelegt und - ganz offensichtlich - auch auf moderne Architektur und Einrichtung, die perfekt zu den häufig zu hörenden DJ-Klängen passt.

Travels: Bella Italia - A Photo Journey Through Venice

ENG: Though I am very much into soaking up new information, places, faces and cultural highlights on vacation, this time round all I did was enjoying the warm weather and relaxing atmosphere, having drinks in the sun, indulging in little snacks and wandering through the old town without a direction in mind. Venice makes for a great weekend getaway and has some very beautiful spots to offer. It's not only molto picturesque - I love the gloominess for photography! - you can enjoy la dolce vita sipping moscato bubblies outside, walk over tiny bridges alongside the canal, eat tramezzini and those teeny-tiny tarte-like pastries for 1, 20€ and have way too many espressi at the bars. What you can also do - and I highly recommend that - is taking the boat to Lido and spend some time at the beach. I love Italy's sandy beaches since my early childhood days and the fact that you can go from historic Venice to the seaside at Lido di Venezia within 20 minutes is pretty cool. Grab some ice cream and a bikini and take some time off at the cute little bay area!

As far as this trip is concerned, I can't give cool insider advice - yes, I did like Plaza della bella Vienna a lot (great drinks and live music!) and I have been told to take a free guided walking tour, but I simply let my mind wander a bit and recharged my batteries, so instead of talking you into certain hot spots and must-sees, I'd rather advice you to maybe do the same and just escape your life back home for a bit and see where the tiny streets of Venice lead you. Now let me take you on a virtual journey..

GER: Normalerweise liebe ich es, auf meinen Reisen Neues zu erkunden und nicht nur die Umgebung um mich herum aufzusaugen, sondern auch Kultur und Geschichtliches zu erfahren, neben all den kulinarischen Ausflügen, die bei mir nie zu kurz kommen. Dieses Mal jedoch, wollte ich in erster Linie Sonne tanken, meine Batterien wieder aufladen und alles auf mich wirken lassen. Man kann ein Wochenende in Venedig wunderbar damit verbringen, durch die engen Gassen zu spazieren, Espressi an den Bars zu trinken, kleine Törtchen für 1,20€ zu essen und am Wasser zu entspannen, mit köstlichem Moscato und Tramezzini im Gepäck. Ohne Ziel einfach drauf los zu ziehen, neue Plätze zu entdecken, das empfehle ich Euch guten Gewissens. Mit Insider-Tipps kann ich dieses Mal nicht wirklich aufwarten, aber wo es mir sehr gut gefallen hat, war am Plaza della bella Vienna - zufällig entdeckt, gute Drinks und Live-Musik - und am Lido di Venezia, der Gegend rund um den Sandstrand und Badeort Venedigs, in weniger als 20 min. leicht vom Zentrum der Altstadt aus zu erreichen. Außerdem soll sich die kostenlose, von Locals geführte Tour sehr lohnen. Nun aber möchte ich Euch gerne mitnehmen und anhand meiner Bilder auf eine virtuelle Reise entführen..
